Our first encounter with Thailand left us speechless - coming from Laos & Cambodia, were everything is very much still rough and beautifully raw... To a very western land. All we did was cross a river, from dirt roads, to tarmacked ones, from little street stalls to 7elevens on every corner; not to mention the Tescos!!
The place & people have become accustomed to the traveling foreigner or Falang, as the Thai would say & for most of them its just a way of life, it soon occurred to us that in Thailand, searching for that untouched experience, we were looking for, is like walking through Kuta, Bali without a single person asking you if you want transport.. IMPOSSIBLE
Which in all honesty, originally provided me with an immediate negative impression...
We had a 15 day visa due to the fact we entered Thailand via a land border crossing. Unfortunately they had changed the rules only a year or so ago.. so you can only get a 30day visa if you fly into the country..
We Ventured mostly in the north, were Chang Mai is situated. We found this area absolutely stunning - and if Rain forests and Mountains are your thing... You'll never want to leave...
We actually hired scooters for a few days and crammed in as many activities as we possible could.. The city it self has a lot to offer as well as history & culture. It also where a lot of Thai's spend there holidays - unfortunately i was far to busy riding around on my scootay to take any snaps...
